NTT Promotion
Can non-tenure-track faculty be promoted? In most tracks, yes; in fact, while UGA NTT contracts are for a year at a time, many of these faculty spend their entire careers at UGA! In our faculty surveys, 7/10 non-tenure-track faculty plan to still be employed at UGA in five years; those who don't, report the most likely reason as "retirement."
The majority of non-tenure-track faculty positions (e.g., academic professionals, clinical faculty, lecturers, librarians, public service faculty, research scientists) at UGA have well-defined "career ladders" and specific guidelines for appointment as well as for promotion. With entry-level, mid-rank and senior level "rungs," these positions are analogous to, but with substantive differences from, tenured/tenure-track positions.

Some non-tenure-track roles (e.g., instructors, administrative A, university physicians) do not have specific promotion guidelines.
Raises provided to non-tenure-track faculty upon promotion vary in amount by role, but are expected for all roles.
